While Susan travels this country in search of primitives to grace your home and garden, many pieces are being imported from Eastern Europe and Asia. These can be exciting and fun, and generally less expensive than a true American Country primitive.

PRIMITIVES

Webster defines "primitive" as:

Of, like, or belonging to an early period, and
A work of art characterized by a naive, childlike simplicity; also, the artist, often untrained, of such a work.

In the antique business, for many of us this means items used by colonists, pioneers and other early settlers of an area, aka American Country.These include smaller household and farm items, as well as furniture.

Stoneware and crocks, particularly those with cobalt decoration are available and affordable in most parts of the country.

Larger, handmade service baskets are both beautiful and useful:
